You’ve done it! You’ve been successful in selling your house and hopefully upgraded into your dream home. You’ve just finished spending the last few months unpacking boxes, putting décor up on the walls and getting all settled in. This is a fairly standard process with the move-in, but you’re excited to show your friends and family your new living pad! What do you do? Throw a housewarming party of course, and a good one. But, how would you even go about hosting a successful housewarming party?
Let us share some tips and tricks to help you throw a memorable housewarming party for your friends and family:
Knowing Who to Invite
Depending on if you’re an introvert or extrovert, this part of the planning should be very specific to who you are, what type of friends you want to host, and what type of party you want to have. According to Statista.com, 41% of households in the United States have children under the age of 18 living with them. Now, this may be you, or may be your friends. Either way, the first thing you need to decide is if the shindig will be kid friendly or not. If you do not have children, you may not want to invite your co-worker with four kids under the age of 10, chances are your home is not childproofed for them. On the flipside, if you’re the one with children, it’s probably best to leave the invite open to all with children as they will be able to play and entertain themselves, in general, most of the time.
So, create a Facebook event with a clear title like “Jill’s Kid Friendly Housewarming Party” so it is very apparent that whomever you invite can bring their kids too. Even if you’re not a big Facebook person, your friends may be, and also this will help give you an idea of how many guests you can expect. As a general rule, you can expect 40-60% of RSVP’s to show up, the other half will have ‘something come up’ to where they’re unable to make it.

Hors d'Oeuvres
When hosting any type of party at your house, you’ll need to provide your guests with food and beverages. Now, if you’re planning a smaller get together, you can create a large meal like a honey baked ham or even a pot roast, but if you plan on the guests mingling and snacking all night, it may be a wise decision to have some hors d’oeurves prepped for the party. Here are a few popular items with minimal food allergens which you may want to explore:
Deviled eggs
Stuffed Peppers
Mini Pigs in a Blanket
Bacon Wrapped Lil Smokies
Any type of Bruschetta
Pinwheel Anything
Drinks & Cocktails
If there will be children present at your party, its also wise to have plenty of juice boxes or something to provide them to drink that wont break, and easily disposable. If you have a large bowl, you may want to look into setting up a table with a ladle and having a community punch bowl too. For the adults who enjoy an alcoholic beverage, you can always head to the store and pick up a few different types of beer, cans generally work best as if they fall on the floor, they won’t break as a glass bottle would.
In conclusion, if you’ve just recently bought a home or moved into a new home, it’s always a fun way to stay in contact with your friends and let them know you’re doing good in your new place.
